TORONTO-BASED lawyer Annamie Paul was announced as new leader of the Green Party of Canada on Saturday, promising a ‘green recovery’ from Covid-19 and a ‘full social safety net’ for Canadians.
Paul pipped seven other candidates for the top job, including second-placed Dimitri Lascaris who picked up more than 10,000 votes.
As a black Jewish woman, Paul becomes the first black permanent leader of a national political party in Canada.
Redaction Politics‘ North America Correspondent Scott Costen joined Declan Carey to discuss the result and what it means going forward.
