WATCH: Protestors gather in Manchester to show solidarity with Ukraine

A UKRAINIAN cultural group and its supporters met in Manchester city centre last Saturday to demand more support from the west against Russia’s invasion.

People from Ukraine, Britain, Poland, Georgia, Slovakia, Lithuania and other countries used the demonstration as an opportunity to share stories of what is happening on the ground in Ukraine and call on their elected representatives to step up anti-war measures.

A popular demand was for NATO to close the sky above Ukraine, a request which Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has called for to deaf ears.

The gathering, organised by the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Manchester, was the fourth week in a row that people demonstrated in the city centre in support of Ukraine.

Manchester’s Ukrainian Cultural Centre has also been coordinating humanitarian aid deliveries, and fundraising events have been held across Greater Manchester by Ukrainian groups in places such as Stockport and Bury.

Thousands have already been killed in the conflict, and millions displaced since Russian soldiers invaded Ukraine in February.
